Haemangioma

There are congenital haemangiomas that sometimes enormously increase in size growing like cauliflower. Only a very small part of hemangioma degenerates/ can later regress spontanoiusly which results in white/ red scars of various sizes with excess tissue.

In the case of hemangiomas, a pulsed dye laser therapy should be performed as early as possible, as long as there is no secondary growth. Only in this case a complete elimination without scars is possible.

In the case of an already thick hemangioma, the first therapy goal is to stop the growth, only after then a better remission can be targeted in order to keep the remaining scars as small as possible.

Small acquired hemangiomas on the body and in area of the face are more frequent, they also frequently appear on the lips.

Similar as in the case of other vessels changes (for example, port-wine stains), therapy with a pulsed dye laser is performedin the most case. Sometimes hemangiomas are too thick for a relatively small penetration depth of this laser. In such cases, laser energy slides into the angioma via an optical fibre and a canule (ILT= interstitial laser-therapy), to get to the deepest parts. Therefore, many sessions are always needed.

In the case of acquired vessel lesions, an application of a dye laser is usually sufficient. Other vessels deformities such as for example granuloma pyogenicum require an additional application of a carbon dioxide laser.
