Port-wine stain

Port-wines are also called nevus flammeus.
We have an extensive experience in the treatment of port-wine stains, also in Sturge-Weber patients, by means of a flash lamp pulsed dye laser. This procedure has established as an unrivaled first choice method all over the world. The younger and the lighter the port-wine stain is, the better results can be expected. Small port-wine stains are easier to treat then large ones. Port-wine stains located on the sides of the face and the neck disappear more quickly then the ones located in the area of the nose, the upper lip and the chin.
The lightening process is gradual; therefore several sessionas are always needed. The most treatments can be carried out without a local anesthesia. Patients describe their sensations as flipping a rubber band over the skin.
In the case of larger stains or when treating children in the facial area, we also offer treatment under short anesthesia. We have cooperated with our anesthetist for more then 14 years. In the case of children with Sturge-Weber Syndrome general aneasthesia is also possible.
In the end of the laser treatment blue discolourations of the lasered spots can appear, that disappear in the course of 10-14 days.
The spots that have been treated with laser should be protected in the broadest sense. Make-up can be used, but there should be a consistent protection from the sun.
