Neurodermatitis (=endogenous eczema) is a skin disease characterised by strong itching and other symptoms. The predisposition (atopy) can be inherited. The first skin changes often appear from the third month of life as the so-called “milk crust”. Yellow crusts can be particularly seen on the head. Skin irritations on the elbows and knees often occur later. Other areas, such as the eyelids, neck and armpits may also be affected. In addition, small blisters can be seen on the fingers, palms and soles. The skin is dry in general. The importance of food being a trigger is overestimated. In childhood there may be intolerance to certain food products, which, however, generally disappears with maturation of the digestive system. It is more important for the parents of the affected children not to expose them to cigarette smoke. The treatment is based on caring and moisturising measures, avoidance of irritations and medicinal therapy. Tips for skin care: |
