Abdominal plastic surgery

4434504

After losing a lot of weight or also after a pregnancy, an abdominal wall is often droopy. In people of old age, abdominal wall lifting can be also recommended or needed without the above-mentioned factors. A disturbing fat or sagging stomach develops. A vibration modelling is insufficient, since the excess skin must be removed first. The sense and the goal of abdominal wall lifting (also called abdominalplasty) is to return the skin and to the muscles of the belly its natural elasticity by means of lifting and replacement.

This surgical intervention is performed under general anaesthesia. The incision is made in the lower part of the belly on the border with pubic hair. An incision sketch, which is done before the operation, is done in such a way so that it can be later fully covered by underwear or a bathing suit. Belly skin is removed from belly musculature up to a costal arch, belly button is separated, so that the skin can be lifted and the excess can be removed. In the most cases the whole area under belly button can be removed. By means of a small incision belly button is placed onto its old position on the lifted skin. Sometimes it is needed to make a vertical incision in addition to a horizontal one. In the most cases – especially in women - the straight abdominal muscles are lifted in the middle.

After the surgery, a compression corsage must be worn. Pains and a feeling of tension are normal after the operation; they can be alleviated with the help of a suitable painkiller. Bleeding or wound secretion, which can last for a few days is also common.
This surgery requires a hospital stay for 2 to 3 days. Stitches are removed in stages between the 8th and the 14th day. For 2 weeks, you must be very careful. Sport, carrying and lifting heavy items must be avoided for 6 weeks.
The final scar can be assessed only a year or a year and a half after the operation. It can be necessary to correct the scar, especially on its both ends, under local anaesthesia.

4434504 Target group:
Men and women with a droopy sagging belly or with a round belly and excess skin, as long as sport or diet do not produce effective results.

Mini abdominal plastic surgery:
In young patients or in the case of atony of the belly area after a loss of weight mini abdominal plastic is performed. Excess skin and possibly still existing excess fat are removed. The abdominal muscles are not involved.

Anaesthesia/ General anaesthesia:
Hopital stay: 2-3 days

Length of treatment: wearing an easy compression bandage or a panty girdle during the first 3 to 4 weeks. Stitches are removed after 12-14 days.

FAQs:

Durability of the result:
Actually, the result of the abdominal plastic is permanent, but it can be negatively influenced by aging or pregnancies if they follow.

Does an abdominal lift leave noticeable scars?
During the classic version of abdominal plastic, a horizontal incision is made alongside the upper end of the pubic hair. It is important to discuss with the surgeon which form of panties is usually worn, so that stitches can later fit into the preferred underwear. In the most cases, it works out to place stitches in such a way so that they are completely covered by underwear or a bathing suit.

What is mini – abdominal plastic?
During mini-abdominal plastic in the lower part of the body, over pubic hair a stripe of excess skin with under skin tissue is removed. The muscle tissue is not involved into the operation. The navel is left on its original place. The mini-abdominal plastic is suitable for lifting of stressed sagging skin, covered with wrinkles skin in lightweight or middleweight patients without fat problems.

What happens with the navel?
By mini-abdominal plastic, the navel is left on its original place. By an extended abdominal plastic, which comprises removing of fat tissue, lifting of underlying muscle tissue and extensive removal of excess skin, the navel is first removed and then in the end of the intervention is placed onto the optically natural height and sewed to it .

Can a belly navel be lifted as well?
Fact is: in the young age navel has a vertically stretched round-shape –“older” navel has rather a horizontal stretching. Though the youthful shape navel of the navel cannot necessarily be restored, still by means of skin lifting during abdominal plastic a more beautiful and more round shape of the navel then before the intervention can be achieved.

Is abdominal lifting performed under general anaesthesia?
Yes, classical abdominal plastic that involves musculature lifting requires general anaesthesia with at least one day of a hospital stay. Mini-abdominal plastic is in the most cases performed under local anaesthesia.

Can an abdominal plastic be combined with liposuction?
Yes. Abdominal plastic is anyway often combined with vibration modelling of the neighbouring areas such as thighs or upper belly to achieve a better result. The possibility of an additional liposuction of separate, not neighbouring areas must be discussed with your surgeon on an individual basis.

Is it enough to undergo a liposuction of the belly?
This is a very individual question, which must be discussed with the specialist during consultation. The reason is that lower costs and intervention risks in the most cases also mean a less effective result. The specialist will individually consult you on the ideal procedure. It must be taken into consideration that especially in men the fat in the belly area is often located under muscular covering and not over it, as in women. Liposuction cannot always bring needed results.

Is pregnancy after abdominal plastic a problem?
No, the abdominal wall operative lift is not a problem for a pregnancy later. Still it is recommended to plan it rather after pregnancy, then before. Pregnancies after abdominal plastic negatively influence results of the plastic intervention.

Will pregnancy stretch marks be removed during abdominal plastic?
So-called pregnancy stretch marks often appear together with droopy belly skin. During abdominal plastic, part of the skin tissue underneath the navel is removed; therefore pregnancy marks can also be removed in the most cases. If there are more marks above the navel, they can be treated with laser at a separate session (not simultaneously with abdominal plastic). The skin appearance is improved, and the marks are made less visible, even if they can not be completely removed.
